As print media struggles with the popularization of online zines, web pages, and blogs, magazines fight to surpass the “first seven years curse”. We lost King, Blender, and most recently to everyone’s surprise (even Quincy Jones) VIBE; however, not all is lost! With the closing these giants, room has been made for new comers stock full of fresh ideas, ambition, and the desire to land a loyal readership. Let’s take a look at one of many new magazines taking a chance at shining bright in a dim industry. The price is right, EZO MAGAZINE come on down!

A veteran illustrator turned master of collage-making, DEREK GORES “picks up trash in a suit” so to say. With his use of recyclables like newspapers, magazine pages, labels, and any other paper items he can get his hands on, Gores creates bright colored portraits with a retro aesthetic. One of his more well known collages displays the face of Obama sprinkled with positive messages of solution making, responsibility and new beginnings. Be sure to check out his show at PARLOR GALLERY in Asbury Park opening on August 22. It’s interesting viewing the artwork of people, not just Americans, but world citizens who are inspired by this President of ours. See more of his creations after the jump!

Drum roll please…

Occupation: Actress
Resides: Fell in love with BROOKLYN
I’ve never met someone with a more inviting and warm personality. I didn’t have the chance to meet Claudeen before shooting her, but we were, you named it, Facebook buddies. Her tagged photos and profile picture album kept me on her page for a good five minutes. Her life was so, interesting to say the least.
We met up at the Morgan stop off of the L train and walked around for a little bit after finally finding a cool spot to set up. She wore some of the best outfits. One look was a metallic silver dress, pink leggings and bright blue pumps, accessorized with a blue military cap…DOPE and a definite reflector of her personality. I would have to say though, the best part of the day with Claudeen was the vintage shopping we did after. She knew all the hot spots, $5 leather flats? I’m not mad at that.
When she wins her first Oscar, I will brag and boast I shot her first.

Ryoko Suzuki, a Japanese-based artist examines the hyper-sexualization common in “Manga” or popular Japanese animations. Within each of her surrealist photographs, Suzuki takes on the role of the seductive teen girls meant to entice older male viewers. By doing this, she visually express her discontent with such depictions of Japanese girls. The featured photos are from the series ANIKORA-SEIFUKU, check out her website to view the rest.

….Or rather I have a website that asks one critical question. Why The F*** Do You Have a Kid? as of right now is one of the funniest and most disturbing submission blogger sites I’ve visited in awhile. There’s Awkward Family Photos, and Fuck My Life, but this site just takes inappropriateness to its extreme.
All the people in the photos on this site need to consider using their damn brains, condoms and birth-control were invented for morons like these.

Because we ran out of rats to feed our bis ass pet Boa Constrictor.

The Black Issue has been all the rave as of late with magazines like TRACE and ITALIAN VOGUE filling their shiny slick pages with African-American models, exclusively. Steering away from the fashion industry norms, the enlightened team over at the magazine highlighted Barbie’s 50th anniversary with, you named it, a 22-paged spread featuring African-American dolls. Kudos and the photography is absolutely beautiful.
